Steps:
- Heat oven to 375°F (350°F for dark or nonstick pans). In large bowl, mix about half of the dry cake mix, the shortening, butter, vanilla and egg, using spoon, until thoroughly mixed. Stir in remaining cake mix. Break up any lumps with fork.
- Divide dough in half. On lightly floured cloth-covered board, roll each half 1/4 inch thick with cloth-covered rolling pin. Cut dough with 2 1/2-inch bell- or heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes or just until set (centers will be soft). Remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. Decorate cookies with frosting. Store loosely covered.

Steps:
- Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, stir together cookie mix, almonds, allspice, cardamom and cinnamon. Stir in butter, vanilla and almond extract until soft dough forms.
- Shape level tablespoonfuls of dough into balls. On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls 2 inches apart.
- Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until set. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack.
- Place powdered sugar in shallow bowl. Gently roll warm cookies in powdered sugar to coat all sides; place on cooling rack. Cool completely, about 15 minutes. Roll in sugar again.

- Roll out the dough on a well-floured surface to about ¼-inch. Press sprinkles into the top of the dough and use a round cutter to cut cookies. Place on the baking sheet.
