Chocolate Pretzels image

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate in double boiler over medium heat on stove top. Using tongs, or your fingers, quickly dip pretzels in chocolate allowing the excess to run off. Place dipped pretzels on waxed paper lined cookie sheets. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, colored sugars or other toppings. Allow to harden. You may need to refrigerate for a while to help this along. Once hardened, remove from sheets and store in a cool location, with waxed paper between layers.
  • Tip: Package pretzels in clear cellophane bags or in vase for festive gift giving!

2 bags chocolate chips (dark or milk chocolate)
1 bag pretzels (logs work well for this, but you can try any of the medium to thick variety of twists)
Chopped nuts, for garnish, optional
Colored nonpareils, for garnish, optional
Sprinkles, for garnish, optional
Coconut, for garnish, optional
Crushed cookies, for garnish, optional

Steps:

  • 1. In a saucepan on medium-low heat, slowly melt the almond bark. Do not melt too quickly or it will burn. Lay out wax paper on a counter or a few large cookie sheets. Set aside. 2. Once the almond bark is fully melted, dipped/roll/coat the pretzel rods in the bark and gently tap the excess off. To decorate with sprinkles, coat the wand while the bark is still wet. Place on the wax paper and let dry completely. 3. To decorate the pretzel wands with chocolate/caramel/butterscotch, pour the melted toppings into separate sandwich or snack baggies and cut of the tip of the corner. Drizzle onto the wands. Place in the fridge to set completely.

1 bag of pretzel rods
1/2 a brick (12 net wt oz) white almond bark
Dark chocolate chips, melted
Caramel, melted
Festive sprinkles
White chocolate chips, melted
Semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
Butterscotch chips, melted

Steps:

  • In a microwave, melt chips; stir until smooth. Dip each pretzel rod halfway into melted chips; allow excess to drip off. Sprinkle coatings with candy stars and colored sugar. Place pretzels on waxed paper; let stand until dry. Store in an airtight container.

Steps:

  • 1. Lay out some wax paper or foil on a baking sheet.
  • 2. Combine the chocolate chips and the shortening in a large microwave-safe bowl, and microwave until the chocolate is melted, stirring after every 20 seconds. Chocolate over cooks easily so WATCH your chocolate!
  • 3. Dip each pretzel rod into chocolate, not quite half way. Roll in sprinkles to coat the frosting and place on baking sheet. Continue until you've done all your pretzels.
  • 4. Place pretzels in the fridge for about 1/2 hour to set.
  • 5. If you want you can sub white chocolate in this recipe or melt a bit of white chocolate and drizzle it over the wands for a fancy look. You can even use food coloring gel to color coordinate with your party theme. If using white chocolate pretzels will need to be set again after.

15 oz package pretzel rods
1 pkg (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 Tbsp shortening

  • Melt the candy coating according to package directions giving special care not to overheat the candy. If the candy coating is overheated, it will be too thick. You can add 2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to help thin the candy but do not add any other type of liquid as the candy will seize and harden.
  • Pour candy coating over two-thirds of the pretzel rod and shake gently to remove excess. If applying sprinkles, do so immediately rotating the pretzel rods to coat all sides. Larger sprinkles work best if placed individually.
  • Place pretzel rod on waxed paper or cooling rack. (Cook’s notes: Waxed paper makes for easier release.)
  • If dipping with additional colored candy melts, allow initial candy coating to set completely. Then, transfer candy melts to a zip-top freezer bag or disposable piping bag with the corner snipped. Drizzle candy coating over the pretzel rods. Before the pretzel sets, gently pick it up and move to clean wax paper.

  • In a small bowl, combine peanut butter and confectioner's sugar. Spoon into a plastic bag and cut off one corner, creating a piping bag. Set aside.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lay pretzel rods 1 inch apart, allowing pretzels to roll until they lay naturally. Carefully pipe peanut butter mixture onto the tops of each pretzel rod in a swirl or zig zag pattern, stopping about 2/3 of the way down each rod. Freeze baking sheet for 15 minutes, or until peanut butter is firm.
