  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • Divide frosting into 3 small bowls. Tint frosting as desired with food colors. Place frosting in small resealable food-storage plastic bags or disposable decorating bags. Cut off tip of each bag to make 1/4-inch opening.

  • In a bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond and vanilla extract; beat in flour, baking powder and salt. Add a few drops of green food coloring until it reaches your desired green. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Roll heaping tablespoons of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press almond firmly into one end for the nail. Squeeze in center to create knuckle shape; using a paring knife or toothpick, make several places to form knuckle.
  • Place on lightly greased baking sheets or parchment lined baking sheets. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until pale golden. Let cool for 3 minutes.
  • Lift up almond; squeeze red decorator gel onto nail bed and press almond back into place, so gel oozes out from underneath. Let cool. Makes about 28 large cigar size cookies. If you only use 1 teaspoon of dough, you will get about 4 dozen cookies.

  • Spooky Witches' Fingers. These cookies look eerily realistic. Home cook Laura M. shares how she decorated them for her son's class party: "We added green food coloring to the dough, and when I took them out of the oven I added a single chocolate chip for a wart.
  • Halloween Chocolate Chip Cookies with Spiders. Want to have a leg up on other chocolate chip cookies? Spoon melted chocolate chips into a piping bag with a small tip, then draw spider-sized legs around chocolate chips.
  • Cat Poop Cookies. If you hope to gross out your crew on Halloween, look no further than our Cat Poop Cookies. Go all out and place them in a new litter box with wheat and barley nugget cereal, like Grape-Nuts, complete with a new litter scoop for serving.
