AMISH BAKED OATMEAL

The first time I had this treat was at a bed-and-breakfast in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. To me, it tasted just like a big warm-from-the-oven oatmeal cookie! -Colleen Butler, Inwood, West Virginia

AMISH BAKED OATMEAL

I got this recipe from a bed and breakfast in Amish country of Pennsylvania. My family is Pennsylvania Dutch, so we were out there almost every summer. It's a great, filling breakfast. Serve with fresh or canned peaches and a splash of milk or half-and-half.

HEALTHIER AMISH OATMEAL

I got a recipe from friends after tasting it (divine!) but was a little aghast at how much sugar and butter was required. I made it a few times, adjusting the amounts each time, and this is where I've ended up... and it's healthy enough for an everyday treat for us rather than just special occasions. (I also added cinnamon and nutmeg because I love that oatmeal-cookie taste.) Note: The original recipe says it serves six. Ha. In our house, it's more like three. Delicious with yogurt, fruit, ice cream, or any combination of the three.

  • Pour into an 8x8 (a little cakey) or 9x13 pan (crispier) and bake 25 min at 350 degrees.
  • Serve alone or with yogurt, fruit, or ice cream.

HEALTHY AMISH BAKED OATMEAL

Like the other recipes here, but a healthier option. My "pop" made this at Christmas when all us steps got together and we had a houseful! I think he doubled the recipe. Add your own milk when served or eat as is...

AMISH BAKED OATMEAL

This recipe came from an old Amish cookbook of mine. It tastes like an oatmeal cookie. It stores well in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the microwave and served with milk. This has to sit overnight, so plan accordingly. It is well worth the wait, however!
