HELOISE'S WAFFLES

I got this recipe from a newspaper years ago. These are our favorite waffles and pancakes. Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients and make waffles or pancakes or make half waffles & half pancakes.
  • This batter cannot be made ahead of time and/or stored in the refrigerator.

Heloises Club Soda Waffles image

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients and blend with a large spoon, being careful not to overmix. Spoon onto a HOT waffle iron and when done, you will have a delicious, fluffy waffle. These also freeze well and can be heated up in the toaster. Prep, servings and cooking time is approximate.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Dissolve the yeast in warm water and set aside.
  • Mix the dry ingredients (in the above order) in a bowl, and then cut in the shortening as you would for a pie crust. When it looks grainy or like little beads, it's time to stir in the buttermilk and the yeast mixture. Mix thoroughly but don't overmix.
  • The dough is ready to use, or it can be refrigerated in a covered bowl for later.
  • When ready to make biscuits, place dough on a well-floured counter or board and knead lightly.
  • Roll out (don't overroll or work the dough) and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  • Place the biscuits on a greased pan and let rise slightly--this is an important step, especially if you have refrigerated dough.
  • Then bake in a 400-degree oven 12-15 minutes.

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil over low heat in a pot large enough to hold all ingredients. Add butter and simmer until melted. Add onions and saute until lightly browned. Add ground beef and bacon; saute till browned, stirring occasionally.
  • Add garlic parsley, bay leaf, salt, black pepper and red pepper. Cook over low heat 10 minutes. Add wine, cover and steam for a few minutes more.
  • Add tomatoes or tomato suce, tomato paste and water. Bring the mixture to a boiling point and add the chopped carrot. Cover and cook over ver low heat for an hour, stirring occasionally. Serve over your favorite cooked pasta.

4 slices finely chopped bacon
4 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
1 bay leaf, chopped fine (I just would throw in whole)

2 ounces red wine
2 (15 ounce) cans whole tomatoes or 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce

1 finely chopped carrot

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar; set aside. Preheat waffle iron to desired temperature.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Stir in the milk, butter and vanilla. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture; beat until blended.
  • Ladle the batter into a preheated waffle iron. Cook the waffles until golden and crisp. Serve immediately.
