GARLIC-HERB BRAID

Garlic-Herb Braid image

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine 1-1/2 cups flour, sugar, yeast and seasonings. In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water and cubed butter to 120°-130°. Add to dry ingredients; beat just until moistened. Add egg; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough., Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 4-6 minutes. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes., Divide dough into thirds. Shape each into a 15-in. rope. Place ropes on a greased baking sheet, and braid; pinch ends to seal and tuck under. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 25 minutes., Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter. Remove from pan to a wire rack to cool. Freeze option: Securely wrap and freeze cooled loaf in heavy-duty foil. To use, thaw at room temperature.

Steps:

  • Mix together the butter, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic, oregano, parsley, thyme, dill, basil, and pepper in a bowl until evenly combined. Chill in refrigerator overnight or 8 hours. This can be frozen for long-term storage.

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Add sugar, salt, oil and 3 cups four, mix well.
  • Add enough remaining dough to make dough easy to handle.
  • turn out dough into lightly floured, cloth covered surface and knead till smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in oiled bowl and brush top with oil.
  • Cover dough with a damp cloth, and let dough rise 1 hr, or until doubled.
  • Punch down dough and divide into fourths.
  • Divine each fourth into 3 equal parts and shape into a 10 inch strand.
  • Braid each group of strands on greased baking sheet.
  • Combine butter, seasoning, and garlic, brush mixture onto each braid, top with a sprinkling of cheese.
  • Let braids rise 30 minutes, or until doubled.
  • Heat oven to 375F and bake approx 30 minute Loaves should be golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
