HET PINT (SPIRITS)

This recipe spans the 17th and 18th centuries: The het (hot) pint was a traditional form of punch, bought at the public house and carried home through the streets at Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) in large copper toddy kettles several hours before midnight to help family and friends "bring in the New Year". Steps:

  • Put ale into a thick saucepan
  • Add nutmeg, bring to just below boiling-point. Do not boil! *
  • Stir in sugar, let it dissolve.
  • Beat eggs very well, add gradually to beer, stir all the time to avoid curdling.
  • Add whisky, heat up. Do not boil! *
  • Pour liquid from saucepan into heated tankards, back and forth.
  • Serve when pouring drink back and forth enough makes it clear and sparkling.
  • Het pint can also be made with white wine and brandy instead of ale and whisky.
  • * If you boil liquor, the alcohol vaporizes into thin air -- .

1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 cup sugar

1 cup Scotch whisky

Apple Pie (Spirits) image

Steps:

  • Pour 1 gallon of apple juice ( or cider) into a large kettle or pot.
  • Put in 3 to 8 cinnamon sticks and nutmeg.
  • Heat over fire until good and hot add 1/2 cup of honey and lemon juice, stir and heat until honey is dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and add 1/2 fifth of good white rum , stir.
  • You can drink it hot or allow it to cool.
  • Tastes just like you are eatin apple pie!
  • BEWARE this drink can be dangerous.it will sneak up on ya quick.

5 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup honey
2 cups good white rum or 2 cups capt. morgan rum
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 pinch nutmeg, I use 1/8 teaspoon
1 pinch allspice, adjust to your taste on this

Swampwater ( Spirits ) image

Steps:

  • To each 1-1/2 ounces of Green Chartreuse, add 6 ounces pineapple juice, 1/4 teaspoon lime, and ice.
  • Stir.
  • Note: one bottle of Green Chartreuse makes one gallon of Swampwater.
  • Careful this is a very potent drink.

  • Pour grenadine in bottom of glass.
  • Then layer Kaluha over the grenadine, then Bailey's Irish Cream, and then Sambuca.
  • Add a teaspoon of Advocat.
  • Put a stopper in the grenadine bottle and place finger on top to stop liquid from escaping.
  • Place bottle in bottom of glass and release.
  • SLAM!
