This is from an Old Betty Crocker Ad from 1945. They are really good.

Steps:
- 1. Cream 6 tbsp. butter with brown sugar. Stir rest of ingredients into creamed mixture alternating with 1/4 c. water. Blend in 1/2 c. nuts. Knead well with hands. Shape into 1 roll 1 1/2" high 2" wide and about 8" long. Wrap in wax paper or saran wrap chilling until firm. Cut with sharp knife into slices 1/8" thick. Place 1" apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 6 min in 400o oven Remove from baking sheet as soon as they are done. Approx. 6 dozen cookies

Steps:
- In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Add egg and extracts; beat until well. Add flour and nuts; beat just until moistened. Cover and chill 1 hour or until firm enough to handle., Preheat oven to 350°. Shape into 1-in. balls; place 2 in. apart on parchment-lined baking sheets. Flatten to 1/4-in. thickness with a glass dipped in colored sugar. Sprinkle with additional sugar if desired. Bake until cookies are set, 10-12 minutes. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
