GRILLED SOUR CREAM AND ONION BURGERS

The classic duo of sour cream and onion soup mix jazzes up juicy beef burgers.

Grilled Sour Cream and Onion Burgers image

Steps:

  • Heat gas or charcoal grill. In large bowl, mix all ingredients except buns and lettuce. Shape mixture into 8 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Place patties on grill. Cover grill; cook over medium heat 10 to 15 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F. Serve with lettuce in buns.

Steps:

  • Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, green onions, sour cream Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix well and then shape into 4 hamburger patties.
  • Heat up grill and cook 4 to 6 inches from coals for 6 to 8 minutes per side or until done to your likeness.

Big Beef Burgers With Crunchy Sour Cream Onion Rings image

Steps:

  • Make the onion rings-fill a countertop fryer with oil or pour a few inches of oil into a large Dutch oven.
  • Heat the oil to 350° (the oil is ready when a 1-inch cube of white bread cooks to golden brown in 40 seconds).
  • Combine buttermilk and sour cream in a bowl and add the onion rings; soak for a few minutes.
  • On a plate, toss the flour with the chives; season generously with salt and pepper.
  • Dip the onion rings in the seasoned flour, then again in the buttermilk, and again in the flour.
  • Fry 1 or 2 rings at a time in the hoi oil, turning once, until golden, about 4 minutes.
  • Transfer to a rack to cool.
  • Make the burgers-heat a large skillet or griddle over med-high heat.
  • In a large bowl, combine the beef, Worcestershire sauce, lots of pepper, and a little salt; mix thoroughly.
  • Score the mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties slightly thinner at the center than at the edges for even cooking and to ensure a flat surface.
  • Drizzle the patties with olive oil.
  • Cook the burgers, flipping once, 10 minutes for medium.
  • While the burgers cook, make the dressing; in a small bowl combine the buttermilk, sour cream, ketchup, garlic, herbs, and lemon juice; season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce.
  • Place the burgers on the roll bottoms and top with the lettuce, onion rings, and ranch dressing.
  • Set the roll tops in place.

I adopted this recipe because I liked the basic idea. Then I added some ingredients and changed the cooking method. I think I have now developed a recipe that produces a savory, juicy burger for those times when only a big 'ol burger will do! Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Savory Sour Cream Burgers image

Steps:

  • 1. Stir together sour cream, green onion, cinnamon, garlic powder, bread crumbs, and salt and pepper, to taste. Add ground beef and mix well.
  • 2. Shape into two 3/4-inch thick patties. Grill or broil patties to desired level of doneness.
  • 3. Hamburger buns should be split, toasted and buttered. Serve patties on toasted buns with tomatoes, lettuce and a dollop of sour cream, if desired.

3/4 lb lean ground beef
1/4 c sour cream
2 Tbsp green onion,thinly sliced
1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • Place half of the salmon in a food processor. Turn on and blend until minced, almost the texture of ground beef. You don’t want it over-processed. Transfer to a bowl. Do the second batch of the salmon. (I do this in batches to prevent over blending the salmon).
  • In a large bowl, combine the salmon, garlic, chives, onion powder, cayenne, paprika, lemon zest salt, pepper, egg and 2 teaspoons cassava flour. Stir to combine.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Form salmon into 4 equal-sized patties and place on baking sheet. Transfer burgers to the fridge so that it firms up a bit and is easy to work with, 10 to 15 minutes.
  • While the salmon is in the fridge, in a bowl add the sour cream, chives, salt, pepper, white vinegar and onion powder. Stir to combine.
