BLT SALAD

This recipe is reminiscent of the classic BLT or bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. It's a great summertime salad!

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat, turning frequently, until evenly browned. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  • In a blender or food processor, combine mayonnaise, milk, garlic powder and black pepper. Blend until smooth. Season the dressing with salt.
  • Combine lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and croutons in a large salad bowl. Toss with dressing, and serve immediately.

1 head romaine lettuce - rinsed, dried and shredded
2 large tomatoes, chopped

BLT Salad with Garlic Croutons image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*F.
  • Arrange the bacon slices in a single layer on a broiler pan, as close together as possible without overlapping.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, and pecans; sprinkle evenly over the bacon.
  • Bake untl the bacon is crisp and nicely browned, about 30 minutes (do not turn).
  • Using a wide spatula, transfer bacon to paper towels and drain, keeping the pecan-side up; set aside.
  • Meanwhile, tear the lettuce leaves into bite-sized pieces; toss with the tomatoes and basil in a large serving bowl.
  • Crumble the bacon and add, along with any loose pecans, to the salad mixture; add croutons and black pepper and toss again.
  • Serve with your favorite dressing.

1/3 cup finely chopped fresh basil leaf
1/2 cup packaged garlic-flavored croutons (or to taste)
fresh ground black pepper, to taste
salad dressing, of your choice

In a small bowl, combine 4 Tbsp mayo, 4 Tbsp sour cream, pressed garlic clove, 1/4 cup chives, 1/8 tsp black pepper and 1/4 tsp salt (or season to taste). Stir together then add 1 to 2 Tbsp milk, or add milk to desired consistency. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and croutons. Just before serving, drizzle with dressing (adding it to taste) and toss to combine.
