Steps:

  • Put all ingredients in the bread machine and start.

1 package yeast
3 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Proof yeast in warm water.
  • Place the butter or margarine and buttermilk in a small saucepan. Heat slowly until butter or margarine has melted. Cool to lukewarm.
  • Place sugar, salt, baking soda, buttermilk mixture, and yeast in large mixing bowl. Add 3 cups flour one cup at a time, and mix with the dough hook attachment of an electric mixer. Gradually add the remaining flour while continuing to mix. When dough is not sticky, turn out on a lightly floured surface. Knead for several minutes, until the dough is soft and smooth. Place in a greased bowl, and turn once. Allow to rise until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough. Divide, and shape into 2 loaves. Place in two well greased 8 x 4 inch bread pans. Allow to rise until dough has risen one inch above pans.
  • Bake in a preheated 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Loaves are done when nicely brown and hollow sounding when thumped.

Tangy Buttermilk Cheese Bread for Your Bread Machine image

Steps:

  • Place ingredients in bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer.
  • Select White Bread setting. Start.
  • To bake bread in oven: select dough or manual cycle.
  • Once cycle is complete, shape dough and place in a greased loaf pan.
  • Allow to rise in a warm spot until doubled in size. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven for 35 to 45 minutes.
  • In my Bread machine start to finish is 2 1/2 hours. This makes a 1 1/2 pound loaf.

1 1/8 cups buttermilk
3 cups bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
3/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Steps:

  • Place ingredients in bread machine pan in recommended order and set on dough cycle.
  • Check consistency of dough and add additional water or flour, if necessary.
  • At end of cycle, remove, shape, and let rise until approximately doubled. Bake in preheated 350 deg. oven. for app. 30 to 40 minute.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour a 4 1/2-by-8 1/2-inch loaf pan; set aside.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and 6 ounces cheese; set aside. In a separate bowl, whisk together butter, eggs, and buttermilk until thoroughly combined. Add to flour mixture and stir to combine. Transfer to prepared pan; spread evenly with an offset spatula. Sprinkle over remaining 1 ounce cheese. Bake until a skewer inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs attached, 50 to 55 minutes. Transfer pan to a wire rack to cool for 5 minutes. Remove bread from pan and let cool completely on wire rack.

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add buttermilk, butter, honey, salt, baking soda, wheat germ and 4 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. , Turn onto a heavily floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.   • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a one pound loaf pan by rubbing it with butter until it is completely greased.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, yeast, shredded cheddar and fresh herbs.
  • Melt the butter and stir it into the buttermilk. Pour the liquid ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and fold together until a shaggy, wet dough is formed.
  • Scrape the dough into the prepared pan and bake for 50-60 minutes. It is done when a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let the loaf cool for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack. Let it cool another 10 minutes before slicing.

  • Whisk the warm buttermilk, warm water, yeast, and sugar together in the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with a dough hook or paddle attachment. Cover and allow to sit for 5 minutes.
  • Add the butter, egg, salt, garlic powder, and 1 cup flour. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula, then add the remaining flour. Beat on low speed until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl, about 2 minutes. *If you do not own a mixer, you can mix this dough with a large wooden spoon or rubber spatula. It will take a bit of arm muscle!*
  • Keep the dough in the mixer and beat on low speed for an additional 2 minutes or knead by hand on a lightly floured surface for 2 minutes. (See video tutorial above if you need a visual of kneading dough by hand.)
  • Lightly grease a large bowl with oil or nonstick spray. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat all sides in the oil. Cover the bowl with aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise in a relatively warm environment for 1.5-2 hours or until double in size.
