Steps:

  • Thinly slice the potatoes and place in a greased shallow 2-qt. baking dish. In a small skillet, melt butter; stir in the onion, salt, thyme and pepper until onion is coated with butter. , Spoon over potatoes. Cover and bake at 425° for 45 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Sprinkle with cheese and parsley. Bake, uncovered, 15 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, combine the potatoes, sour cream and garlic powder. Mix well.
  • Spoon half of the potato mixture into a 2- quart baking dish. Sprinkle 3/4 cup of cheddar cheese and 3/4 cup of french fried onions on top. Cover with the remaining potato mixture.
  • Bake for 25-30 mins until hot. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and french fried onions. Bake for 5 mins until the onions are golden brown and cheese is melted.
