QUICK CHERRY TURNOVERS
Refrigerated crescent rolls let you make these fruit-filled pastries in a hurry. My family loves these turnovers for breakfast, but they're so delicious, they'd be welcome any time of the day. Feel free to experiment with other pie fillings as well. -Elleen Oberrueter, Danbury, Iowa

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375°. Unroll crescent dough and separate into four rectangles; place on an ungreased baking sheet. Press perforations to seal. Place 1/4 cup pie filling on one half of each rectangle. Fold dough over filling; pinch edges to seal. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden. , Place confectioners' sugar in a small bowl; stir in enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over turnovers. Serve warm.

CHERRY ALMOND TURNOVER COOKIES
You can freeze the unbaked cookies on a baking sheet til solid, then transfer them to an airtight container. Return to the freezer for up to a month. Great to have on hand for unexpected guests.Source: Unknown

- 1. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Beat cream cheese, butter and 1/2 tsp. almond extract in large bowl with hand mixer til fluffy, 1 minute. Add flour mixture and beat just to mix. Divide dough in half, form each half into a disk, and wrap in plastic wrap. chill 1 hour or up to 1 day.
- 2. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 3. Roll dough on lightly floured work surface to 1/8 inch thick. Using a 3 inch round cookie cutter, cut cookies; transfer to prepared baking sheets. Reroll scraps once.
- 4. Drop 1/2 tsp. preserves in center of each cookie, brush edges with egg wash, fold over filling and seal with a fork. Freeze cookies 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350.
- 5. Brush cookies with egg wash and prick center with a fork. Bake cookies, one baking sheet at a time, til golden, 12 to 15 minutes; let cool on racks.
- 6. Whisk together powdered sugar, heavy cream and 1 tsp. almond extract. Drizzle cookies with glaze. Note: I was thinking of making these with orange marmalade and orange extract in place of the cherry preserves and almond extract. Just a thought.

- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Gradually add water, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic; refrigerate for 30 minutes. , Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, combine cherries and sugar. Mash slightly; let stand for 15-20 minutes. Stir in cornstarch until blended. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat; stir in cinnamon. Cool. , Divide dough into eight portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion into a 5-in. circle. Place about 3 tablespoons cherry mixture on one side of each circle; fold dough over filling. Press edges with a fork to seal. Prick tops with a fork., Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the confectioner's sugar, vanilla and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Drizzle over warm turnovers. Serve warm.

- Preheat oven to temperature listed on package of crescent roll dough (mine listed 375). Open, unroll and separate crescents onto two parchment paper or Silpat lined baking sheets.
- Spoon a slightly heaping 1 Tbsp of the pie filling near the large end of each of the crescents (you'll only use about 3/4 of the can of filling). Roll to opposite end and tuck the top corner under. Bake in preheated oven according to time listed on crescent roll package (mine listed 9 -12 minutes).
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Meanwhile in a mixing bowl whisk together powdered sugar, milk and almond extract, adding more milk to thin about 1/2 tsp at a time as needed. Serve warm or allow glaze to set and store in an airtight container.
