Cold Weather Negroni Recipes
THE NEGRONI
Legend has it that this ruby-hued cocktail was developed in the early 20th century for an Italian count, Camillo Negroni, who, according to one account, picked up a taste for British gin while traveling in England to indulge his passion for horse racing.

- Pour all ingredients into an ice-filled mixing glass. Stir well. Strain into a cocktail glass. (Alternatively, combine ingredients in a tumbler and serve in the same glass.) Garnish with an orange twist.

- Stir gin, vermouth, and Campari in an ice-filled mixing glass until very cold, about 30 seconds. Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into an ice-filled rocks glass.
- Using a small serrated knife, remove a 1" strip of peel from the orange (some white pith is okay); it should be stiff enough to provide some resistance when bent. Twist over drink to express oils; discard. Garnish with 3 very thin orange slices.
