Steps:

  • In a bowl, beat cream cheese, mayonnaise, lemon juice and garlic salt until smooth. Fold in clams and onions. Chill. Serve with vegetables, crackers and/or chips.

1 can (6-1/2 ounces) minced clams, drained

Steps:

  • Put onions, celery and potatoes in large saucepan and pour clam juice over top until barely covered. This usually takes me 2 bottles.
  • Simmer, covered, over medium heat until barely tender.
  • Meanwhile, melt butter.
  • Add flour and blend, stirring contantly.
  • Add half and half slowly, cook and stir with wire whisk until smooth and thick.
  • Add undrained vegetables and clams, and heat through.

My mother used to make this.......we owned a boat when I was a kid, and EVERY time we went out on it, she made this with carrot and celery strips to scoop it up with. My moms been gone for almost 30 years, but every time I make this for my dad, he says.........I remember how your mom used to make this. It is delicious!!!!! The clams can be chopped or minced, depending on what you like. Save the clam broth from the cans to add in. I couldn't get this in on ingredients. I mix it all up with a potato masher......cooking time is actually chilling time.
