Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the tuna with salt, add to the skillet and cook, turning, until browned on all sides, about 2 minutes. Remove to a plate.
  • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil to the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. Add the red onion, fennel and celery, season lightly with salt and cook, tossing, until the vegetables begin to soften and brown around the edges, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the capers, oregano and red pepper flakes; cook until sizzling, about 1 minute. Pour in the wine and simmer until reduced by half, about 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and 1/2 cup of the boiling water. Cook, smashing the tomatoes with the back of a spoon, until they begin to break down and the sauce is thickened, 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, add the pasta to the boiling water and cook as the label directs for al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup cooking water, then drain.
  • Return the tuna to the skillet. Add the pasta and toss to coat, adding the reserved cooking water as needed to loosen. Divide among bowls and top with the celery leaves and fennel fronds.

23 DELICIOUS CANNED TUNA RECIPES THAT WILL SURPRISE YOU

From bonappetit.com
Author Joe Sevier
Published Jun 30, 2022
  • Charred Green Beans with Spicy Tonnato. Did you doubt that a canned tuna recipe could be so elegant? Tonnato, a classic, creamy Italian sauce made with tuna and anchovies, is usually served with veal, but here it gives charred snap beans an umami base.
  • Tuna Salad With Crispy Chickpeas. Crispy chickpeas and red endive turn your tuna salad into a tasty light lunch. If you need something a little more filling, you could stuff this into a pita and call it a tuna wrap, of sorts.
  • Classic Tuna Salad. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it. This classic tuna salad recipe has everything you crave and would expect: red onion, celery, mayonnaise, mustard, lemon, parsley, and capers.
  • Anything-Goes Green Goddess Salad. Herby, punchy, creamy green goddess dressing is as versatile as it is delicious. You can use cilantro, mint, basil, or any combination of tender herbs, and it can be mixed into shredded chicken breasts, chickpeas, chopped hard-boiled eggs, or, yes, high-quality canned tuna.
  • BA’s Best Tuna Casserole With Dill and Potato Chips. You might not find this nouveau tuna noodle casserole under "healthy tuna recipes," but you will find it under "dinner recipes using pantry staples that the whole family will love."
  • Tuna Empanada. Thanks to both canned tuna and store-bought frozen puff pastry, this Galician empanada is very easy to make. View Recipe.
  • Onigiri Three Ways. Compact and ready to be taken on the go, onigiri are one of our favorite lunch ideas—and you don’t need to be a sushi chef to make them.
  • Linguine With Anchovies and Tuna. We love the meaty, sustainably caught Spanish tuna packed in buttery olive oil from Ortiz for this recipe. Eat any leftovers for lunch the next day and call it pasta salad.
  • Green Goddess Tuna Salad Sandwich. Green goddess dressing meets tuna salad in this sandwich, which is a revelation, bringing bright, herbaceous flavors to the classic.
  • Niçoise Toast. Niçoise salad, but make it toast. Yes, you read that right: Fried bread is our contribution to the classic French dish turned easy dinner.
