CAROLINA CHEW BREAD

WARNING THIS RECIPE IS NOT FOR THOSE WATCHING WHAT YOU EAT. This is a delectable chewy like brownie. Rich, sweet and with a little crunch from the nuts, there is a little bit of everything for everybody in this wonderful brownie. Doesn't last long around my family. When I take the brownies to a bbq it's the first to go. I bet you can't eat just one!

Carolina Chew Bread image

Steps:

  • Over medium heat combine sugar and eggs in a heavy saucepan
  • stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients, stirring mixture well.
  • Spoon mixture into a greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool and cut into small squares.

1 (16 ounce) package light brown sugar
4 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans (or your favorite chopped nut)

My mom's best friend, Miss Sadie makes this at least once a week....instead of calling it Chew Bread, we should call it Sharing Cake....Miss Sadie loves to share this recipe with all of her friends and family. Yummy! *Google pic*

Steps:

  • 1. Mix eggs with a wire whisk real good.
  • 2. Add brown Sugar.
  • 3. Add sugar.
  • 4. Add flour.
  • 5. Add oil.
  • 6. Add pecans.
  • 7. Mix real good.
  • 8. Pour in a 13x9 " greased baking pan.
  • 9. Bake on 325 for 40 minutes.
  • 10. Yummy!

1 1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 1/2 cup self-rising flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
4 eggs
1 cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla

CHEW BREAD

Cut into bars, this dessert is more like a blondie than a sweet bread. A moist center contributes to its chewy texture. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Steps:

  • Put oven rack in middle position and prehead oven to 300 degrees, then butter a 9"x13" baking pan.
  • Whisk together brown sugar and flour in a large bowl until combined well, then whisk in eggs, melted butter, and vanilla until combined- Stir in pecans.
  • Pour batter into baking pan, smoothing top, and bake until edges are golden and puffed, about 35 minutes.
  • Cool in pan on a rack at least 10 minutes, then cut into 24 bars.
