GROWN-UP PB & J SANDWICH

Just because you're all grown up doesn't mean you don't enjoy a great PB&J sandwich. Our adult version features sliced strawberries and chopped peanuts for added sweetness and crunch.

Grown-Up PB & J Sandwich image

Steps:

  • Heat panini press.
  • Spread butter on 1 side of bread slices. Turn over. Spread peanut butter on other side of 1 slice of bread and jam on other slice of bread.
  • Top 1 slice of bread with strawberries and peanuts. Top with other slice of bread, buttered sides facing out.
  • Cook on panini press as directed by the manufacturer

1/2 tablespoon butter, softened
2 slices sandwich bread
2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons strawberry jam
2 large strawberries, sliced
1 tablespoon peanuts, chopped

  • Spread nut or seed butter on one slice of bread. Spread mascarpone, marmalade, or jam on another slice. Top with remaining ingredients; sandwich together to serve.

Old-fashioned butter bread, such as Martin's, or similarly soft, fluffy sandwich bread
Creamy peanut butter
Mascarpone
Sliced celery
Chili flakes
Honey
Sesame butter (such as Seedible Creamy or Crunchy Sunflower)
Orange marmalade
Sliced banana
Lightly toasted flaked coconut
Almond butter
Fig jam
Halved fresh raspberries
Chopped dark chocolate
Flaky sea salt

  • Adult PB&J. Let’s start off simple by upgrading PB&J’s two main ingredients. Swap the peanut butter out for almond butter (pictured), because almonds are all the rage right now and apparently better for you.
  • Banana Bread PB&J. You’ve probably had peanut butter and banana, but substituting banana bread for regular bread is straight-up sorcery. Plus, it allows you to keep jelly in the equation without worrying about the slippery texture pushing out the bananas with every bite.
  • Burgerized PB&J. Being an adult means you’re granted special privileges not afforded to kids. You can stay up as late as you want, drink milk directly out of the carton (or pour the milk into the cereal box and save yourself from washing a bowl), and you’re finally allowed to operate a grill.
  • Crȇpe avec PB&J. If you don’t speak French, “avec” means “with,” and “crrȇpe” means “crȇpe.” Now that we’ve got that intensive language lesson out of the way, feel free to start adding PB&J to your crȇpes.
