GLUTEN-FREE GRAVY

I love this gluten-free gravy-it's so versatile! It can be used with an everyday meal or aside a holiday feast. And it is delicious with any protein. -Rita Casey, Blairsville, Georgia

Steps:

  • Heat large saucepan over medium-high heat; add butter. Cook and stir onion and mushrooms until tender, 3-5 minutes. Add flour and seasoning; cook and stir until lightly browned, 2-3 minutes. Stir together water and bouillon until dissolved; add to vegetable mixture. Cook until gravy is desired thickness, stirring occasionally, 5-7 minutes. Serve warm. If desired, use an immersion blender to thin out.

1/2 pound whole mushrooms, chopped
3 to 4 tablespoons gluten-free all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1-1/2 cups water or chicken broth
2 gluten-free chicken bouillon cubes

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, saute onion, mushrooms and parsley in 1/4 cup broth until vegetables are tender. Combine cornstarch, pepper and 1/2 cup of broth; stir until smooth. Add to pan with the remaining broth. Bring to boil, stirring occasionally; boil for 2 minutes.

Guilt Free Turkey Gravy image

Steps:

  • In large saucepan, over medium heat, bring turkey broth and pan juices to a boil. Meanwhile, blend cornstarch and water until smooth. Whisking constantly, slowly add cornstarch mixture to broth mixture: continue stirring until gravy thickens. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Note: To defat pan juices, pour poultry drippings into glass measuring cup and refrigerate until fat solidifies. Remove fat layer and discard.

- 4 cups turkey broth and defatted pan juices (see note)
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup cold water
- salt and pepper to taste
