AIR FRYER HALLOUMI CHEESE

The first time I had halloumi was in a pub in England where it's often served as an appetizer, and it was instant love. This is a breeze to make in the air fryer, and we like to serve it with sliced cherry tomatoes, freshly-chopped herbs or occasionally a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

Air Fryer Halloumi Cheese image

Steps:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Slice halloumi into 6 equal slices, cut each slice in half, and dry with a paper towel. Brush all sides with olive oil.
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the halloumi slices in the basket, making sure they're not touching. You may have to cook in two batches,
  • Cook for 7 to 9 minutes until golden brown, but make sure not to overcook or they turn rubbery. Serve immediately.

  • To make the fried halloumi, mix the flour, za’atar and garlic powder in a shallow bowl or on a plate. Cut the halloumi into 12 fat fingers, then toss in the flour mixture.
  • Heat enough oil to cover the base of a large frying pan over a medium-high heat. Working in batches, fry the halloumi fingers for 1-2 minutes on each side or until crisp and golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. Dust with the sumac.
  • Serve immediately, drizzled with honey, with the peaches/figs on the side and some lemon wedges for squeezing.
