  • Hawaiian Banana Nut Bread. If you’ve overdone it with the banana bread, you might be tempted to skip this recipe. I get it. The great banana bread baking bonanza of 2020 was intense!
  • Chocolate Haupia Pie (Ted’s Bakery Copycat) Haupia is a thickened coconut layer similar to pudding or custard. Set with cornstarch, it has a silky smooth, gelatin-like texture.
  • Hawaiian POG Recipe. The P.O.G here stands for passion, orange, and guava. The combination of these three fruits is a tropical dream, and I much prefer a glass of this first thing in the morning to plain old OJ.
  • Brown Sugar Grilled Pineapple. Grilled fruit is sadly underrated. We always look for the big cakes covered in frosting or huge scoops of sugary ice cream.
  • Hawaiian Dream Cake. Substituting pineapple juice for water will make this cake undeniably tropical. Not to mention the crushed pineapple in the faux-cheesecake layer is a taste of the islands, too!
  • Coconut Macadamia Nut Bars. Chewy, buttery, and so hard to resist, these little bars are a thing of beauty. The base is a super simple shortbread that will hold the toppings without taking away any flavor, and boy, is it full of flavor.
  • Hawaiian Cheesecake Bars. There’s nothing about these bars that I don’t love. Buttery shortbread base is always a winner. I’ll eat pineapple cheesecake filling right out of the bowl!
  • Hawaiian Pineapple Poke Cake. The beauty of a poke cake is that even if you over-bake it by accident, the pudding will seep in and make sure it’s moist throughout.
  • Copycat Guri Guri. Guri Guri is a fabulous ice cream hybrid. Made with strawberry syrup, condensed milk, and cream, it doesn’t need an ice cream machine.
  • Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Soft, fruity, and super retro, this cake will take you back to the 70s in a flash. Using boxed cake mix and slice pineapples will speed up your prep to just 10 minutes.

TRADITIONAL HAWAIIAN DESSERTS: 18 OF THE BEST - WHIMSY & SPICE

From whimsyandspice.com
  • Pineapple Squares. It is certainly true that pineapples are the most famous fruit associated with Hawaii, thanks in part to the natural abundance of the fruit on the Hawaiian islands.
  • Hawaiian Guava Cake. Another fruit found abundantly on the Hawaiian islands is the guava, and this Hawaiian guava cake is the perfect tribute to one of the fruits that has given them so much.
  • Hawaiian Butter Mochi. Of course, with the Hawaiian islands being in such proximity to eastern Asia (particularly Japan) there was bound to be some cultural crossover.
  • Hawaiian Haupia. A traditional Hawaiian dessert, haupia is a classic coconut milk-based dish featuring corn starch, sugar, and water. Once chilled, they form a delightful, delicious, fudge-like concoction, which can be enjoyed as part of a potluck, get-together, or as a sweet treat at home.
  • Auntie Midge’s Hawaiian Salad. This fruit and marshmallow salad is the perfect dessert for any get-together of BBQ, and is very similar in texture to a fruit salad or the British trifle (see also ‘27 Of The Tastiest BBQ Desserts (Plus Easy Recipes)‘).
  • Frozen Hawaiian Pie. Of course, in hot, tropical climates like Hawaii, it is important to stay cool – even when having dessert. This is where the frozen Hawaiian pie comes in, and this tasty, indulgent dish is the perfect way to beat the heat and fill your belly in the process.
  • Apple & Pineapple Crumble. This apple and pineapple crumble is a unique take on the classic apple pie or the British apple crumble, using ground cookies or biscuits to create a crumb topping for the fruit.
  • Pani Popo. Papi popo is a traditional Hawaiian coconut bread, served as a round roll which can be consumed with butter, eaten on its own, or served as part of a wider meal.
  • Purple Yam Mochi Cake. The yam, or sweet potato, is an incredibly important part of Hawaiian cuisine, and as with much of South America, the Caribbean, and the rest of the Pacific Islands, has a long history within the cultures of this region.
  • Pineapple Coconut Bread. Similar to banana bread, this pineapple coconut bread is a tin based dessert, baked with fresh ingredients and served as part of a larger meal – usually as a dessert or accompaniment to another dish.
