Hawaiian-Style Parsnips image

Steps:

  • Peel and slice parsnips. Cook in a covered pan in a small amount of boiling salted water till tender, 15-20 minutes; drain well.
  • In large saucepan blend brown sugar, cornstarch, and 3/4 teaspoon salt; stir in undrained pineapple, orange peel, and orange juice. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Add butter; stir till melted. Add parsnips to sauce. Cover and simmer 5 minutes.

8 1/4 ounces canned crushed pineapple
1/2 teaspoon shredded orange peel
1/2 cup orange juice

I had to figure out how to make Hawaiian Macaroni Salad at home because my husband was getting tired of ordering enough for our whole family from a local restaurant. Steps:

  • Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and rinse with cold water. Cool completely., For dressing, in a small bowl, whisk next 9 ingredients. Add pasta to a large serving bowl. Add dressing; gently toss to coat. Refrigerate until serving. If desired, garnish with green onions.

  • Peel the parsnips and cut the ends off. Then cut lengthways down the middle, and again down the middle. This leaves you with 4 long pieces. Then cut the parsnips in half so you have 8 pieces per parsnip. They should look a bit like a finger of a fat chip/fry!
