Steps:
- Saute the onions in oil until lightly browned. Rinse the split peas and barley in water and place in a large pot. Add the chicken stock and water and cook over medium-high heat. until almost tender, about 1 hour. Add the pasta and cook 10 minutes longer. Then add the lima beans and vegetables, cook until the vegetables are tender. Season with dill, salt and pepper.

- Crumble the ground beef into a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir until no longer pink. Drain off grease and pour in the tomato juice. Add the onion, carrot, and potato. Pour in the entire contents of the cans of corn and green beans. Season with ginger, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer 1 hour.

- Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, water, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- Simmer uncovered for about 25 minutes. Then add the corn, green beans, peas, zucchini and cabbage. Bring back to a simmer and continue cooking about 10 minutes, until all the vegetables are tender--be careful not to over cook them.
