Riced Crispie Treats Grandmas Recipes
RICED CRISPIE TREATS, GRANDMA'S
Grandma's cokbook would not be complete without the original Rice Crispie Treats recipe. She made these every year at Christmas. She would sometimes add raisins, chocolate chips, or M & M's. On Christmas eve the family would descend on her house and eat up the traditional meat balls she made, cookies, and Rice Crispie Treats. Those are special memories.

Steps:
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Add cereal. Stir until well coated. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 by 9 inch pan coated with butter or margarine. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares.
- NOTE: You can add 1/2-1 cup goodies if you like. For example chocolate chips, M & M's, raisins, or dried apricots.

Grandpa W liked butterscotch, so Grandma always seemed to add it somewhere. These rice krispies are so wonderful with the combination of peanut butter and both chips, and there isn't a marshmallow in sight (so my mother in law would be very happy! LOL).

- Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease the parchment. I always use a very light mist of nonstick spray. Set aside.
- Melt the butter over medium heat in a very large pot. Once melted, add the marshmallows. Stir the mixture until the marshmallows are completely melted.
- Remove from heat, then immediately stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Finally, fold in the cereal. Make sure each piece of cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Transfer mixture to prepared pan. Using a rubber spatula (greasing it lightly helps), gently spread mixture to fit the pan. Lightly grease the back of a flat spatula and very gently press the mixture down into the pan. Do not pack it down with force, just lightly press down so it’s secure in the pan.
