AGUA DE LIMA (LIME WATER)

This refreshing and zesty 'lime-ade' makes a great addition to a spicy Mexican meal. Believe it or not when you add the juice of a cucumber it is a whole new experience!

Agua De Lima (Lime Water) image

Steps:

  • Squeeze the limes into a bowl and strain 1 cup of the juice into a jug with the water. Add the sugar and more lime juice to taste.
  • Fill the jug with crushed ice and serve.

Agua de Limón con Chía (Limeade With Chia Seeds) image

Steps:

  • Put the limes, water, and sugar in a blender and pulse 3 to 4 times, just enough to extract the juice from the limes but not crush the skins (which would make the drink too bitter). Strain through a fi ne-mesh sieve into a pitcher. Taste and add more sugar if you like.
  • Whisk in the chia seeds and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, until completely chilled. Stir before serving, then serve over ice.

3 large limes, quartered

Steps:

  • Choose very ripe fruit; peel, seed, and coarsely chop.
  • Smoothly puree measured fruit pulp and juice (a portion at a time, if needed) in blender with sugar and lime juice.
  • Add flavored fruit mixture to water, then rub through a fine strainer into a large jar or pitcher and discard pulp.
  • Pour the agua fresca over ice cubes into tall glasses.
  • Slices or chunks of matching fruit may be added as garnish just before serving.
