BARBECUED STYLE GREEN BEANS
Found this in an old cookbook of mine. I tried this with a combination of ketchup, and BBQ sauce, and we liked the results.

Steps:
- Brown bacon in skillet until crisp, and then break into pieces, reserving 2 tablespoons bacon drippings.
- Saute onions in the bacon drippings.
- Combine ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, worcestershire, and salt, and stir into bacon and onions.
- Pour mixture over green beans, and mix lightly.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until beans are tender.

This recipe was given to me at a Bible study picnic by a dear lady who loved to make up her own recipes. I've shared it with many friends, including missionaries who have taken it to other countries!

- In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove to paper towels; drain, reserving 1 tablespoon drippings. Saute onion in drippings until tender. Add the ketchup, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce; cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil., Place green beans in a greased 1-1/2-qt. baking dish; top with onion mixture and bacon. Cover and bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until beans are tender.

- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

It's not a real barbecue until a dish of baked beans shows up! While there are many different versions and many different techniques, I'm here to tell you that these are the best. These are the tastiest, most satisfying, the easiest, and the meatiest. They not only make a great side dish, but if the budget's a little tight, these will absolutely work as a main course. Sprinkle the top with sliced green onion if you like.

- Add dry beans to a bowl, cover with water, and let soak for 8 hours, or overnight.
- Drain beans and transfer to a large pot filled with 3 quarts of cold, fresh water. Add bay leaf, pork shoulder, and onion. Bring to a simmer over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir. Skim off foam if desired. Let simmer until beans are just tender, about 1 hour.
- While beans simmer, combine barbecue sauce, ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire, smoked paprika, cayenne, black pepper, kosher salt, and garlic powder in a bowl with a whisk. Set aside until needed.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Transfer tender bean mixture to a deep, 15x10-inch baking dish using a spider strainer. Pour in barbecue sauce mixture and 2 ½ cups of the bean cooking liquid. Place bacon slices on top.
- Bake uncovered in the center of the preheated oven until the liquids have reduced into a thick sauce, 2 to 3 hours.

BAR-B-Q BAKED BEANS
I have been serving this recipe to my extended family every Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter for over 20 years. It is always a big hit but I have never told the children that there are lima beans in it! This is especially good with a baked ham or spareribs, and is easily doubled. Enjoy!

- Place beans in a large saucepan; add water to cover by 2 in. Bring to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; cover and let stand for 1 hour. Drain and rinse beans, discarding water. Return beans to the saucepan. Add 6 cups water, onions and salt; mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours or until beans are tender., Drain and discard liquid. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, syrup, hot pepper sauce and bacon. - 1. Saute onions in bacon grease then mix with the ketchup and brown sugar. Heat until bubbly. Crumble in the bacon.
- 2. Place green beans in a casserole dish or 9x13 pan and cover with sauce, do not stir. Bacon will remain on top. Place in oven uncovered at 250 degrees for 4 hours. It can be cooked in a hotter oven for a shorter time but is better when cooked slowly. Do not stir.
