You will never want to eat frozen veggie burgers again. These are so easy, and you'll be proud to have created such a vegetarian delight.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers image

Steps:

  • If grilling, preheat an outdoor grill for high heat, and lightly oil a sheet of aluminum foil. If baking, preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), and lightly oil a baking sheet.
  • In a medium bowl, mash black beans with a fork until thick and pasty.
  • In a food processor, finely chop bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Then stir into mashed beans.
  • In a small bowl, stir together egg, chili powder, cumin, and chili sauce.
  • Stir the egg mixture into the mashed beans. Mix in bread crumbs until the mixture is sticky and holds together. Divide mixture into four patties.
  • If grilling, place patties on foil, and grill about 8 minutes on each side. If baking, place patties on baking sheet, and bake about 10 minutes on each side.

Meatless Black Bean Burgers image

Steps:

  • Puree black beans in a food processor, or mash with a fork.
  • Combine bread crumbs, bell peppers, onion, eggs, barbecue sauce, nutritional yeast, salt, olive oil, taco seasoning, black pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, and chili sauce in a large mixing bowl. Add mashed beans and mix well.
  • Form mixture into 8 patties. Place on greased waxed paper and let sit in the refrigerator until firm, about 2 hours.
  • Lightly grease a cast iron griddle pan with vegetable oil and heat over medium heat. Add burgers and fry until cooked through, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
  • While burgers are cooking, mix mayonnaise, vegan bacon bits, relish, vinegar, and tomato paste for aioli together in a small bowl.
  • Top each burger with a slice of Monterey Jack cheese. Serve on toasted hamburger buns with aioli sauce.

Black Bean Chili Burgers image

Steps:

  • Heat grill or grill pan to medium-high. Heat broiler. Combine chili powder, garlic powder and cumin in a small nonstick skillet. Cook over medium-high heat for 2 minutes, until fragrant. Remove from heat.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the sirloin, black beans, spice mixture, red onion, 1/3 cup of the salsa, salt and pepper. Transfer to a food processor and pulse until texture is slightly smooth and about half of the beans have been mashed. Return to bowl and divide into 6 hamburger patties.
  • Coat burgers with nonstick cooking spray. Grill 4 minutes, then flip over and grill another 4 minutes or until instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of burger registers 140.
  • Meanwhile, toast buns under broiler for 3 minutes, turning once. In a small bowl, stir together remaining 3 tablespoons salsa and the mayonnaise. Spread each bun with some of the salsa mayo. Add a burger and a few avocado slices and serve.

Great veggie burger recipe with a chili and cumin kick in it. We make these all the time to get a vegetarian protein fix. Adapted from a great Moosewood Restaurant Recipe. These are really filling, so we've found that slightly thinner, smaller patties are usually better, and you can fit toppings on that way. We will also sometimes add a tbsp of crushed red pepper flakes in with the cumin and chili pepper to really spice it up!

Chili Bean Burgers (Veggie Burgers) image

Steps:

  • Saute onions and garlic in oil for about 5 minutes until the onions begin to soften.
  • Add carrots, chili powder and cumin. Cook on low heat for 5 minutes. Set aside.
  • Mash the beans in a large bowl with a potato masher or the back of a spoon, or run through a food processor.
  • Add the mustard, soy sauce, ketchup or tomato paste and the sauteed vegetables.
  • Mix in the oats.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Moisten your hands and form the burger mixture into six or so patties.
  • Oil a nonstick skillet and cook burgers on medium-low heat for 5-8 minutes on each side. Put them on a bun and they are good to go with ketchup or whatever sauce you like and toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.)!
