Steps:

• Oven to 350°F. Spray cookie sheets with nonstick cooking spray. In large bowl mash banana. Add egg, oil, nutmeg and half the dry cake mix to the bowl and beat on medium speed until well blended. Stir in remaining dry cake mix with wooden spoon just until combined and moistened. Stir in the chopped nuts if using. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake 10 to 13 minutes until the center is just barely set when lightly touched with your fingertip and edges are firm. Remove from the oven, allow cookies to cool for one minute then transfer to wire racks.

Steps:

• Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
• Cream shortening; add brown sugar, beating well. Add eggs and banana; beat well.
• Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices. Add to creamed mixture; mix well. Stir in pecans.
• Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls, 2 inches apart onto greased cookies sheets. Bake for 12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool. Dip half of cooled cookies into Powdered Sugar Icing.
• To Make Icing: Combine 3 cups confectioner's sugar, 1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine, and 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add milk to yield desired consistency (you may need to add a little extra), beating until smooth.

• In a large mixing bowl combine the butter and brown sugar, and sugar. Beat with a hand mixer until light and smooth.
• Add in the mashed bananas and vanilla and mix together on low speed.
• Add in flour, baking soda, and salt to the banana mixture. Mix just until combined.
• Fold in the chocolate chips and mix in with a wooden spoon.
• Chill dough for at least 40 minutes.
• Roll into balls and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
• Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until the bottom and edges start to turn brown. You'll want them a little bit golden.
• Let cool in pan for a few minutes and then place on a cooling rack.
