- Cut bread diagonally into 1-in. slices to within 1/2 in. of bottom loaf. Repeat cuts in opposite direction. In a bowl, combine the butter, poppy seeds, onion, mustard, salt and lemon juice. Drizzle over cut bread and into cut slits. Place mushrooms and cheese in slits. Wrap bread in foil. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes or until warmed.

- Preheat oven to 350°. On an ungreased baking sheet, unroll crescent dough into one long rectangle; press perforations to seal. Prick dough several times with a fork. Bake 5 minutes., Meanwhile, in a bowl, toss mushrooms with melted butter; arrange on crust. Sprinkle with cheese and seasonings. Bake 12-14 minutes longer or until crust is golden brown. Cut into 12 pieces.

- 1. Heat oven to 375^. Spray a 3-qt. shallow dish with buttery cooking spray. Combine and place prepared bread cubes,onions and mushrooms into the dish.
- 2. Beat together the soup,eggs, milk, thyme,dry mustard and pepper in a medium bowl with a whisk. Pour mixture over bread mixture , pressing the mixture down to coat evenly. Let stand for 30 minutes to soak up liquid. Bake for 35 minutes. Sprinkle cheese over casserole evenly and bake for 10 minutes more or until cheese has melted. Serve with gravy over top of each serving, if desired.

This recipe came from my husband's grandmother, it was one of her husband's favorites. I remember it being a rather dense bread with a good flavor (if you like mushrooms of course). I'm estimating the preparation time, as it has been a while since I've made it.

Steps:
- Melt 2 tbsp of the margarine in a saucepan.
- Add mushrooms and onions and saute until liquid has evaporated; let cool.
- In another saucepan, scald milk.
- Stir in molasses, salt, and pepper, and cool until lukewarm.
- Measure warm water in large warm bowl and sprinkle in yeast. Stir until dissolved.
- Add lukewarm milk mixture, mushroom mixture, egg, wheatgerm, and 2 cups flour.
- Beat until smooth.
- Stir in enough flour to make a stiff dough. Turn out onto floured board, knead until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease top.
- Cover, let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
- Divide dough in half abd form into two loaves.
- Place in 2 greased 9"x5" loaf pans.
- Cover, let rise in pans, until doubled in bulk (about 1 hour).
- Bake at 400 degrees F for about 45 minutes. Remove from pans and let cool before serving.

- Heat a medium skillet on medium. Add the butter. Once the butter is melted, add the mushrooms. Cook 4-5 minutes until they start to sweat. Add the thyme and continue to cook another 2-3 minutes.
- Set mushrooms aside and allow to cool.
- For the Bread.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cut the bread lengthwise and widthwise without cutting through the bottom crust. This can be a little tricky going the second way but the bread is very forgiving.
- Place loaf on a foil-lined baking sheet.
- Insert cheese slices between cuts. Pour the mushrooms between the cuts. Use your fingers to push the mushrooms down into the loaf.
- Combine butter, onion, and poppy seeds. Drizzle over bread. Wrap in foil; place on a baking sheet.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
- Unwrap the bread and bake 10 more minutes, or until cheese is melted.
