CILANTRO LIME GRILLED TOFU

Flavorful tofu, perfect for summer grilling. This is my absolute favorite way to eat tofu. The marinade is delicious and extremely flavorful. Serve with grilled vegetables or in a tortilla.

Cilantro Lime Grilled Tofu image

Steps:

  • Place the block of tofu onto a plate and place another plate on top. Set a 3 to 5 pound weight on top (a container filled with water works well). Press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes, then drain off and discard the accumulated liquid. Slice the tofu lengthwise into 4 thick slabs or cut into cubes and thread on skewers. Place tofu pieces or skewers on a plate.
  • Whisk together the lime juice, olive oil, cilantro, garlic, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Brush the tofu with the marinade. Cover the plate with plastic wrap, and marinate tofu in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate. Grill the tofu until almost blackened in spots, brushing occasionally with the marinade, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Grilled Tofu With Chili Lime Marinade image

Steps:

  • Slice tofu in half lengthwise, then cut each half into two long strips, approximately 1/2-inch thick.
  • Mix remaining ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Lay tofu strips in a shallow pan and pour marinade over, turning tofu to coat. Marinade for at least 1 hour, or as long as overnight.
  • Heat oil in grill or nonstick pan over high heat. Sear tofu on each side until browned and heated through, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare the sweet chili lime sauce by whisking all of the ingredients except tofu and oil together until the sugar and salt is dissolved. 2. Drain the tofu and cut it into small triangles. Add oil to a skillet and heat over medium heat, then add tofu, spreading it out in one layer in the pan. The tofu will begin to turn golden. After several minutes, flip the tofu over. Add the sauce and stir to coat the tofu. Keep the heat on high until the sauce bubbles up, reduces, and forms a glaze. 3. Serve with rice and sauteed baby bok choy

3 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 3/4 tbsp fresh lime juice
zest from 1/2 lime
1/2 tsp red chili flakes

Tofu in Ancho Chile Lime Marinade image

Steps:

  • Cut tofu into slices 2"long by 1/2" wide.
  • Combine remaining ingredients in a small pot and bring to to a boil.
  • Simmer for 5 min, remove from heat and pour over tofu. Marinade in glass bowl for several hours or preferably overnight.
  • Pour off marinade and bake tofu slices for 15 minutes in 350 degree oven, basting with remaining marinade each five minutes.
  • Serve over rice, or mix with noodles and remaining marinade.

Soba Noodles With Chili Lime Tofu and Basil image

Steps:

  • Whisk together the oils, soy sauce, lime juice, garlic, chili flakes and agave. Set aside.
  • Chop a block of firm tofu into bite sized pieces. Cover with the marinade and leave for a couple of hours. As is the case with any tofu dish, the longer the better.
  • Boil the soba noodles until tender, drain, rinse and set aside.
  • Blanche broccoli florets until tender crisp.
  • In a wok / saute pan, stir fry the tofu, reserving the extra marinade.
  • Chiffonade the basil.
  • Toss the noodles, broccoli and tofu together, dress with the extra marinade. Feel free to make a double batch if you like extra sauce. Heat through if you are serving warm, if not leave in the fridge, then bring to room temperature just before serving. Sprinkle with the basil and extra chili flakes if you'd like it extra spicy.
