CINNAMON SOUR COCKTAIL
In this tasty twist on a whiskey sour, fresh lime juice replaces the usual lemon, and homemade cinnamon syrup adds a spicy warmth to the cocktail. It's served accented with candied ginger and Luxardo cherries, the deeply flavored doyennes of the maraschino family.

Steps:
- Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon together and set aside.
- Beat the butter with the sugar until well blended and creamy. Beat in the egg.
- Mix the sour cream and baking soda together and add to the butter mixture. Add the dry ingredients and beat well to make a soft dough. It will be sticky, so cover and chill the dough for about 30 minutes until it is firm enough to handle. If the kitchen is hot you may need to chill the dough a little longer.
- Lightly grease baking sheets. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Take walnut-size pieces of the dough and roll into balls. Arrange on the baking sheets about two inches apart to allow for spreading. Flatten the balls with the tines of a fork. Bake 10 to 15 minutes until the cookies are golden brown but still slightly soft in the center. Allow to cool for a couple of minutes on the pans, then transfer them to racks to cool completely.

- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg and 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar together until combined. Whisk in the oil, sour cream, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, then whisk to completely combine. Avoid over-mixing. You will have about 3 cups of batter.
- Pour/spread half of the batter into prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle almost all of the cinnamon sugar evenly on top (reserve about 2 Tablespoons for topping). It’s a very thick layer of cinnamon sugar. Carefully pour/spread remaining batter evenly on top. The top layer of batter will want to stick to the cinnamon sugar filling, making spreading a little tougher to do, but use a spoon to carefully spread it out as best you can. Sprinkle with the rest of the cinnamon sugar. Using a knife, make a large swirl down the loaf pan, as shown in the video tutorial above. Avoid over-swirling, which will mix the layers together too much.

- In a medium-sized saucepan add cranberries, water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce to a simmer and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have burst open and can easily be stirred into the syrup, resulting in a smooth consistency. This will take about 10 minutes. Once done, remove syrup from heat. Fit a large bowl with a fine mesh strainer and strain the simple syrup, leaving all of the large chunks and skin behind. Let cool for at least 10 minutes before using.
- When ready to make your cocktails, add 3/4 cup simple syrup, whiskey, lemon juice, orange juice, lime juice, and a large handful of ice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Divide into 4 glasses and serve at once.
