- Season with garlic powder and black pepper.
- Top with green pepper and onion slices.
- Pour about half the bottle of BBQ Sauce over the top.

Brisket comes in two different cuts: point and the leaner flat. Depending on which you get, your corned beef may be tender and sliceable (flat cut) or very tender and falling apart (point cut). If your meat isn't labeled, speak with the butcher about which variety your grocery store stocks.

- Layer the potatoes, carrots, onions, celery and thyme in the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker. Put the brisket on top of the vegetables and add the beer and pickling spice. Add enough water to just cover the brisket. Cover and cook on low until the meat and vegetables are tender, about 8 hours.
- Arrange the cabbage over the brisket (it's OK if the cooker seems crowded), cover and cook until soft and wilted, 45 minutes to 1 hour more.
- Whisk together the sour cream, horseradish and mustard in a small bowl.
- Remove the cabbage and toss with 1 tablespoon of the butter and pepper to taste in a large bowl. Remove the meat and let rest. Strain the remaining vegetables (reserve some of the cooking broth to serve on the side if you like) and toss with the parsley, the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and salt and pepper to taste.
- Slice the corned beef against the grain and serve with the vegetables, horseradish sauce and broth if using.

I know there are a lot of fancier versions of corned beef on here, but this is the way my Mum always makes it, and my sister, and until now, it has always been my way of doing it too. I plan to start trying some of the other recipes on here, but something tells me I'll keep coming back to this one.

- Place vinegar, sugar, and sauce into the crockpot. Add about a cup of water and blend all the ingredients.
- Add silverside, and add enough water to cover. Cook on high for at least 4 hours, adding the carrots for the last hour.
- I like to leave mine simmering in the crockpot for asd long as possible, all day is best, but 4 hours is enough.
- To serve, cut the meat against the grain, and serve with the carrots, and some mashed potatoes, green beans, and white sauce. Yum!

- 1. Add water and 1 Tablespoon of onion soup mix to slow cooker
- 2. Place half of the onions in, add garlic.
- 3. Salt and pepper all sides of the roast and place in slow cooker (I usually sear the meat on the stove prior to adding to slow cooker, it adds color and seals in the flavor and juices)
- 4. Add carrots and the rest of the onions
- 5. Pour remaining onion soup mix over roast
- 6. Add Coke and Jack Daniels
- 7. Cover and cook on low 7-8 hours
- 8. Remove carrots and roast from crockpot
- 9. Make gravy from the juices and serve with mashed potatoes
