- Place the yeast, sugar, and water in the pan of a bread machine. Allow yeast to dissolve and foam, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, powdered milk, and salt in a bowl; set aside. Add the honey, vegetable oil, and butter to the yeast mixture, and pour the flour mixture on top.
- Select the Dough cycle; press start. Allow the bread machine to complete the cycle, about 1 1/2 hours, then transfer the dough to a 9x5-inch loaf pan sprayed with cooking spray. Allow the bread to rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown, about 35 minutes.

- Follow instructions for your bread machine.
- My machine instructs to measure buttermilk, beaten egg, margarine, sugar, salt, flour, cocoa, and yeast in the order listed into baking pan. (I mix buttermilk and egg and microwave on high for about 30 seconds before putting in pan.).
- Insert baking pan into oven chamber and secure pan.
- Select sweet bread setting and 2 pound loaf.
- Add chocolate chips when "add ingredient" signal sounds.
- When cycle ends, I put loaf into a large zip lock bag, seal, and place on wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

- For a 2 lb loaf, please use the 2 lb ingredient list and set the bread machine settings to 2 pound loaf, light color and “basic” bread options. For a 1.5 lb loaf, please use the 1.5 lb ingredient list and set the bread machine settings to 1.5 pound loaf, light color and “basic” bread options. FYI - Make sure not to confuse the 1.5 lb & 2 lb ingredient amounts and machine settings!
- Add all ingredients starting with the milk into the bread machine “bucket” (loaf pan). Make sure the yeast is last and does not touch the milk or salt. Some people like to make a small "divot" on top of the flour in order to hold the yeast in one spot before the machine starts.
