Steps:

  • Line a large cookie sheet with waxed paper. Set aside. For sticks: Stick the end of each pretzel stick into the rounded side of a mini marshmallow. (Make sure the end of the pretzel doesn't go all the way through the marshmallow.) Lightly squeeze the ends of the marshmallows so it resembles a bone. Repeat step for desired number of "bones". Melt the almond bark per package directions. Stir in peanut butter, if desired. (I used the microwave, stirring every 15-20 seconds until about three-fourths melted, then removed and continued stirring until completely melted). For rods: Coat both ends of a pretzel rod with the melted bark then lay it on the waxed paper; immediately place two mini marshmallows at both ends of the rod (side-by-side, standing on flat ends), pushing them into the melted bark to adhere to the rod. Set aside to dry before dipping the whole rod in the bark. Place one pretzel "bone" at a time in the melted almond bark, spooning it over and around to completely cover. Use a fork to lift the bone out (letting the excess drip off) onto the waxed paper. Refrigerate for 20-30 minutes to harden. (To speed the process, I set the tray of bones in front on a standing fan for 5-10 minutes).

Pretzel sticks or rods
Mini marshmallows
Vanilla flavored almond bark
1 teaspoon creamy peanut butter, optional
(Ingredient amounts depend on number of "bones" you want to make)
(I omitted the peanut butter this time but it does add to the flavor and gives it a more bone-like color)

Steps:

  • Line a large baking sheet with waxed paper. Get your candy eyes out and pair up the pupil sizes, if needed. (Mine were 3 - 4 different sizes). In a mixing bowl, add the marshmallows and chow mein noodles. Set aside. In a 3-qt. non-stick saucepan, melt together the butterscotch chips, peanut butter, and salt over medium-low/medium heat, stirring constantly until melted and smooth. (Do not overheat or the mixture will siege.) Add the marshmallows and chow mein noodles, stirring quickly to combine. (Most of the marshmallows will usually melt). Working very quickly, drop 2 - 3 mounds (about 1 1/2") of the mixture onto the waxed paper using two forks, or spoons, then add 2 eyes to each one. Repeat process with remaining mixture. Allow time for mixture to harden completely.

1 (11-ounce) package butterscotch chips (I used Nestle)
1 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter (I used creamy)
Dash of salt
1 cup mini marshmallows
1 1/2 cups crispy chow mein noodles (I used LaChoy, comes in a bag)
Edible candy eyes (usually on baking aisle or in party supplies)
