EASY DROP BISCUITS

One day I had company coming and realized I had run out of biscuit mix. I'd never made biscuits from scratch before, but I decided to give this easy drop biscuit recipe a try. Now this is the only way I make them! -Sharon Evans, Clear Lake, Iowa

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450°. In a large bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg. Stir into crumb mixture just until moistened. , Drop by 1/4 cupfuls 2 in. apart onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes. Serve warm.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place the flour, baking powder and salt into a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Add the butter and pulse until the dry ingredients and the butter are mostly combined. (Alternatively, cut the butter into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter.) Drizzle in the milk and pulse (or stir) just until the dough comes together. Do not over mix.
