THE ORIGINAL FANTASY FUDGE

This recipe used to be found on the back of a well known brand of marshmallow cream. Many were surprised when it was changed. This is the original! You may find that most packages of chocolate chips are 10 ounces now; 12 ounces of chocolate chips is roughly 2 cups.

The Original Fantasy Fudge image

Steps:

  • Grease a 9x13-inch pan.
  • Mix sugar, margarine, and evaporated milk in a large, heavy saucepan over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Bring mixture to a full boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until melted and thoroughly combined. Beat in marshmallow creme, walnuts, and vanilla extract. Transfer fudge to the prepared pan and let cool before cutting into squares.

¾ cup margarine
⅔ cup evaporated milk
1 (12 ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips
1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

FANTASY FUDGE VARIATION

This is my variation of the "Fantasy Fudge" recipe found on the lable of Kraft Marshmallow Creme. I find that using powdered sugar and cocao makes a nice change from baker's chocolate.

Steps:

  • Set 2 cups of powdered sugar aside. You can also set aside up to 1 tablespoons to use for dusting the finished fudge, if you like.
  • Combine remaining powdered sugar, butter, and evaporated milk. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • Continue to stir at boiling for approximately four minutes (until about 230-235 degrees on a candy thermometer).
  • Add remaining sugar, shortening, and cocao.
  • Stir for another 4 minutes or so, until well blended. Remove from heat.
  • Add marshmallow creme, nuts, and vanilla, stir until all ingredients are well blended.
  • Pour into foil-lined 8"x8" pan. Dust with powdered sugar if you like. Cool at room temperature for four hours. Cut into squares.
