These vitamin-packed fruit skewers are a simple, colourful and fun way to get kids to eat fruit. They'll love helping to make them too.

Steps:

  • Take 7 wooden skewers and thread the following fruit onto each - 1 raspberry, 1 hulled strawberry, 1 tangerine segment, 1 cube of peeled mango, 1 chunk of peeled pineapple, 1 chunk of peeled kiwi, 1 green and 1 red grape, and finish off with 2 blueberries. Arrange in a rainbow shape and let everyone help themselves.

Cinnamon-Flavored Skewers with Fresh Fruit image

Steps:

  • Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 to 60 minutes. Dry them off with a towel.
  • Prepare a grill or broiler.
  • Lay out skewers on a plate and brush with cinnamon oil. Skewer a few pieces of fruit onto each skewer. Grill or broil fruit skewers for 30 seconds on each side.

2 tablespoons cinnamon oil
2 cups each fruit of your choice, cut into 3/4-inch chunks (apples, banana, pears, pineapple)

Steps:

  • Mix marinade till sugar is dissolved and pour into a a small cookie sheet pan to fit the wooden skewers.
  • Soak the skewers in liquid for one hour.
  • Then skewer your choice of fruit, cook on the grill or indoors if you prefer.
  • A little trick so the skewers don`t burn is to hang them over the edge of the grill or wrap them in foil.

Steps:

  • Cut the fruit into bite sized chunks. Thread a piece of each fruit onto a skewer along with a mint leaf. Set aside.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the maple syrup. Whisk in the cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth. Stir in the orange extract and cook until hot. Don't let it come to a boil. Spoon into a serving dish and serve immediately as a dipping sauce with the fruit skewers.

Grilled Fruit Skewers with Sweet Yogurt Sauce image

Steps:

  • If you are using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes.
  • In a small pot combine the brown sugar with 1/4 cup water, cinnamon and orange zest. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Remove from heat and set aside to cool to room temperature.
  • Preheat the grill or grill pan over low heat.
  • Thread 2 pieces of each type of fruit onto each skewer. Grill the skewers until the fruit is warm and lightly charred about 6 minutes giving the skewers a quarter turn every 1 1/2 minutes. Make sure to brush with the brown sugar syrup after each turn.
  • While the fruit is grilling, make the dipping sauce. Whisk together the yogurt, orange juice, and 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar syrup in a serving bowl. Reserve 2 tablespoons for the Online Round 2 recipe Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wraps.
  • Arrange the skewers on a serving platter and serve with the dipping sauce on the side.
