CHOCOLATE CARAMEL BROWNIES
My aunt gave me this recipe. It is a little trouble, but they will be the best brownies you'll ever eat.

Steps:
- Peel caramels and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir in 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Heat and stir until all caramels are melted.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) Grease a 9x13 inch pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, melted butter, and chopped pecans. Place 1/2 of the batter in prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 8 minutes.
- Place the remaining batter into the fridge. Remove brownies from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Drizzle caramel sauce over chocolate chips. Remove brownie mix from refrigerator. Using a teaspoon, make small balls with the batter and smash flat. Very carefully, place on top of the caramel sauce until the top is completely covered.
- Bake for an additional 20 minutes. Remove and let cool.

I found this recipe in a 1987 Lutheran church cookbook..

Steps:
- Mix the first 3 ingredients. Put half (or a little less) of the mixture in a 9x13" pan.
- Bake at 350* for 6 minutes. Melt package of caramels on low heat or in microwave. Put 1/3 cup evaporated milk with the caramels.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the chocolate mixture when you remove it from the oven..Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel mixture and chopped nuts.
- Put the rest of the cake mix on top, you may need to add a little more milk to the mixture if hard to spread. Bake for 18-20 min. more..Enjoy....

- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Butter an 8- or 9-inch square glass baking pan.
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add chocolate and stir until melted. Remove from the heat and cool for 10 minutes or more.
- Combine cooled chocolate mixture, sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Add eggs; mix well. Add flour mixture and stir until well combined. Spread batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, 20 to 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and set the oven to broil.
- Combine brown sugar, melted butter, corn syrup, and milk for topping in a bowl. Stir in coconut and pecans. Drop and gently spread mixture evenly over the warm brownies.
- Broil 4 inches from the heat until topping is bubbly, 1 to 2 minutes. Cool for 1 hour before slicing and serving.

- Preheat oven to 350°. In a microwave, melt butter and chocolate; stir until smooth. Cool slightly. In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar. Stir in vanilla and chocolate mixture. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to chocolate mixture. , Pour into a greased 9-in. square baking pan.
