GRANDMA'S SUGAR COOKIES
This is one of my great-grandmother's recipes that I received years ago from one of my great-aunts. We bake these cookies for holidays and other special occasions. -Kristy Deloach, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Yield 6 dozen 2-1/2-inch cookies or 1-1/2 dozen 4-1/4-inch cookies.

Steps:
- In a large bowl, cream the sugar, butter, vanilla and salt. Add eggs and mix well. Combine the flour, baking powder and baking soda; add to creamed mixture. Chill until firm, about 1 hour., On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut shapes with cookie cutters; place on greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 7-12 minutes (depending on size) or until light golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool completely., In a large bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, extract and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Tint with food coloring. Decorate cookies as desired.

GRANDMA MINNIE'S OLD FASHIONED SUGAR COOKIES

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) .
- Over a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, sugar. Cut in butter and blend with a pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal. Stir in lightly beaten egg, cream, and vanilla. Blend well. Dough may be chilled, if desired.
- On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Sprinkle with sugar; cut into desired shapes. Transfer to ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, or until delicately brown.

- In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and butter until fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla; beat well.
- Stir together dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture until completely blended.
- Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut with various shaped cookie cutters dipped in flour.
- Transfer cookies to ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes.
- Cool on wire racks.
- Frosting: Mix together sugar, butter, vanilla and milk until desired degree of spreading consistency; add milk if you want thinner frosting.
- Add food coloring to obtain desired color.
- Spread frosting over cookies and decorate with sprinkles.

My granny always made these around Christmas. They are the easiest, best tasting cookies around. Be warned, they are addictive.

Steps:
- Mix cream cheese and butter well in large bowl until well blended and creamy.
- Add in flour slowly, beating well after each addition. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and wrap well in cellophane. Store in fridge overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
- Roll out dough balls flat and place a 1/2 teaspoon full of the jam in the center. Fold sides over and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes until brown and the jam starts to bubble hard. Cool for 3 minutes and place on cooling rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.

- 1. Cream Shortening, sugar, and eggs together until light and foamy.
- 2. Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together.
- 3. Mix flour mixture with egg mixture; add orange juice. Mix until smooth. (If mixture is dry add a small amount of cold water to moisten)
- 4. Chill then roll and cut with cookie cutters. Bake on a cookie sheet for 5-6 minutes at 350.
- 5. FOR THE ICING
- 6. Combine powdered sugar, milk, 1 tablespoon butter, corn syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in small mixer bowl; mix until powdered sugar is moistened.
- 7. Beat at medium speed until smooth, adding additional milk if necessary, to reach desired glazing consistency. Tint with food color, if desired.

- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, corn syrup, orange zest and cold water.
