HAM AND MOZZARELLA STICKS

I think this came from one of my Paula Deen recipes. My grandchildren love these but so does everyone that tries them.

Ham and Mozzarella Sticks image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper: set aside.
  • Wrap each string cheese stick in 2 slices of ham, being sure to secure ends.
  • Unroll phyllo dough. Brush 1 sheet evenly with melted butter. Top with a second sheet of phyllo, brushing evenly with butter. Roll prepared cheese in butter phyllo sheets, being sure to secure tightly.
  • Brush tops and sides with melted butter. Tear 1 phyllo sheet into strips, and layer strips onto buttered sticks. Repeat procedure with remaining prepared cheese stick, ham, phyllo, and butter.
  • Place on prepared baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.

1 (12 ounce) package mozzarella string cheese
1 (10 ounce) package deli-sliced ham
0.5 (16 ounce) package frozen phyllo dough, thawed
1/2 cup butter, melted

Ham and Cheese in Puff Pastry image

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Place a piece of parchment paper on a sheet pan.
  • Lay 1 sheet of puff pastry on a floured board and carefully roll it out to 10 by 12 inches. Place it on a sheet pan and brush the center with the mustard, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge. Place a layer first of ham and then cheese, also leaving a 1-inch border. Brush the border with the egg wash.
  • Place the second sheet of puff pastry on the floured board and roll it out to 10 by 12inches. Place the second sheet on top of the filled pastry, lining up the edges. Cut the edges straight with a small, sharp knife and press together lightly. Brush the top with egg wash and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until puffed and golden brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes and serve hot or warm.

1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, defrosted (recommended: Pepperidge Farm)
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 pound black forest ham, sliced
1/2 pound Swiss Gruyere cheese, sliced
1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water, for egg wash

Mozzarella Ham Stromboli image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. On a lightly floured surface, unroll dough. Pat dough into a 14x12-in. rectangle. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over dough to within 1/2 in. of edges. Top with a single layer of ham. , Roll up tightly from a short side; pinch seam to seal. Place seam side down on an ungreased baking sheet. Brush top of loaf with butter; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese., Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack 5 minutes. Cut with a serrated knife.

Place 2 slices ham in center of wrap; place 1 cheese stick on top of ham. Fold sides of wrap in, then roll up as tightly as possible. Place stick seam side down on prepared baking pan. Repeat with remaining wraps, ham and cheese sticks.
  • Lightly spray sticks with cooking spray. Transfer to oven; bake 8 minutes. Turn sticks; bake 4 minutes longer or until golden brown and crisp. Watch closely during last few minutes of baking time - if you notice any cheese coming out ends of sticks, remove from oven immediately.
