HERSHEY'S SYRUP COPYCAT

Found this on the net. Supposedly this is the recipe featured on the can of Hershey's cocoa before Hershey's syrup was marketed. Thicker than other syrup recipes I've tried and none of the gross stuff in commercial varieities. Sorry, Hershey's, but I much prefer Penzey's natural process cocoa. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Hershey's Syrup Copycat image

Steps:

  • Combine cocoa, sugar, dash salt, and hot water in saucepan. Stir to combine. Boil 3 minutes. Remove from heat; add vanilla and stir.
  • Store in a clean container in refrigerator. Makes enough to completely fill a pint canning jar.

Steps:

  • Combine cocoa, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.
  • Add water, and mix until smooth.
  • Bring this mixture to a boil.
  • Allow it to boil for one minute, be careful this does not over boil.
  • Remove from heat, when this cools add the vanilla.

1/2 cup cocoa (Hershey's obviously)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 dash salt

Steps:

  • Toast both of your bread slices.
  • Take your Hershey's syrup and pour it on the bread.
  • Take a butterknife and spread the Hershey's syrup on all the corners of the bread.
  • If using peanut butter put a layer of peanut butter on top of the Hershey's syrup.
  • Enjoy!
