BOURBON WHISKEY BBQ SAUCE

This is a barbecue sauce recipe using Kentucky bourbon whiskey. For best results, refrigerate for a day or two, allowing the flavors to blend.

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the onion, garlic, and whiskey. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until onion is translucent. Mix in the ground black pepper, salt, ketchup, tomato paste, vinegar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and hot pepper sauce.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Run sauce through a strainer if you prefer a smooth sauce.

Homemade Bourbon Barbecue Sauce image

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft, about 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for one minute longer.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet and bring the sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Strain the sauce into a medium bowl. Cover and chill until ready to use.
  • Enjoy!

Steps:

  • In a deep frying pan (Dutch oven?), melt the butter and gently fry the onions, chilies and garlic for about 5 minutes.
  • Lower the heat and add all the other ingredients, except the Bourbon, stirring after each addition.
  • Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, then add the Bourbon and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
  • Let the sauce cool, stir now and then.
  • Put in clean jars or wide neck bottles and label.
  • Store in a cool dark place.

I love cooking with bourbon and grilling and bourbon seem to go hand in hand, LOL! This recipe is different since you can either smoke the sauce before using it or cook it all the way through on your stovetop. The sauce will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks. Cooking time is the time it takes to cook on the stovetop.

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat and add the onion and garlic and saute until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the ketchup, 1/4 cup of the bourbon, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, soy sauce, Tabasco, black pepper, and cayenne. Mix thoroughly.
  • Smoke on your smoker for 2 hours or add the liquid smoke and simmer for 20 minutes over low heat on the stovetop.
  • Stir in the remaining 1/4 cup bourbon.
  • Use as a basting sauce or as a finishing and table sauce on beef, chicken and pork.
