Steps:
- Drizzle 1 tablespoon olive oil into boiling salted water. Add linguine, and cook according to the directions on the package, 7 to 10 minutes.
- While the pasta is cooking, place the butter and the remaining 5 tablespoons olive oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot set over medium heat. Once butter has melted, add the garlic and saute until lightly brown, about 2 minutes, being careful not to let it burn. Add the shrimp, parsley, salt, and pepper, and saute, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp have just turned pink, about 5 minutes. Turn off the heat.
- When the pasta is done, drain the cooked linguine, and add immediately to the shrimp. Add the lemon juice, pepper flakes, lemon slices, and lemon zest. Toss well, season to taste, and serve immediately.

Steps:
- Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the linguine, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 11 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink. Transfer the linguine to a large mixing bowl.
- Heat the olive oil and butter together in large skillet over medium heat until the butter is melted. Cook and stir the garlic in the butter and oil for 2 to 3 minutes. Add shrimp and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in the wine, lemon juice, red pepper, basil, and salt and cook another 1 minute. Mix in the tomatoes and cook 1 minute more; remove from heat and transfer mixture to the bowl with the linguine. Sprinkle the Pecorino Romano cheese and parsley over the pasta and sauce; toss until well mixed.

When the water returns to a boil, cook for about 6 to 8 minutes or until the pasta is not quite done. Drain the pasta.
- Meanwhile, in a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter in 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium-high heat. Saute the shallots, garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using) until the shallots are translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper; add them to the pan and cook until they have turned pink, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the pan; set aside and keep warm. Add wine and lemon juice and bring to a boil. Add 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons oil. When the butter has melted, return the shrimp to the pan along with the parsley and cooked pasta.
