NORI (ROASTED SEAWEED) CHEESE SNACKS

An interesting and attractive appetizer and snack. These cheese snacks are delicious as is or served along side some japanese rice crackers and/or edamame! Also excellent as an appetizer or for a party tray. :)

Nori (Roasted Seaweed) Cheese Snacks image

Steps:

  • Trim nori to the same size as the cheese slices, if neccesary. Squares are easiest to work with.
  • Starting with a slice of cheese, layer with the nori and alternate, using 3 sheets/squares of nori and 4 slices of cheese.
  • Press together firmly and cut into triangles or bite sized squares. If serving as an appetizer feel free to put little toothpicks in the centre of each piece - these hold together well though so it's not neccesary. :).

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Brush each sheet of nori with sesame oil and sprinkle with salt. Put on a baking sheet. Roast until crisp, about 10 minutes. Remove and cut into strips or quarters.

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Lightly oil a baking sheet.
  • Arrange nori smooth-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush olive oil over nori; season with salt.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until nori is dry and crispy, 3 to 4 minutes.

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Cut nori into small squares or large strips using sharp scissors.
  • Place nori onto a baking sheet sheet. Most flavoring are best with oil, but I found the pickled ginger variety really interesting and made it without oil.
  • For the other flavors you can mix the oil with spices of choice and use a pastry brush to brush a light coating on both sides of the nori pieces.
