- Blend maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, dry mustard, salt, basil, and black pepper in a blender until smooth; stream olive oil into the mixture while blending and continue blending until dressing is thick and creamy.

- Combine maple syrup, honey, apple cider vinegar, canola oil, red pepper flakes, cardamom, salt, and pepper in a lidded jar. Cover and shake vigorously to combine. Add blood orange juice and shake again. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

- For salad, merrily toss the first 3 ingredients into a lovely salad bowl. Then artfully sprinkle the cheese, cherries and nuts on top. Serve with the dressing on the side so everyone can choose how much they like.

ROSY MAPLE SALAD DRESSING
When blood oranges are in season we often buy a case of them which prompts me to invent new ways to use them before the kids gobble them up. This light salad dressing has a beautiful rosy color from the blood orange juice. It works well with green salads but would also be nice on a chicken salad.

- In a medium bowl, mix together the maple syrup, honey and vinegar.
- Slowly add the oil whisking constantly.
- When all the oil is incorporated, add the red pepper flakes and the cardamom.
- Whisk in the blood orange juice.
- Taste and season with salt and pepper to your liking.
