- 1. Preheat oven to 350^. Grease and flour or spray two 8-inch layer pans.Set aside. Combine salad dressing and sugar. Blend in vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients to salad dressing mixture alternately with water, mixing well after each addition. Pour into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans. Frost with: --- Chocolate "Philly" Frosting: Combine cream cheese, milk, vanilla and salt. Mix until well blended. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar. Stir in melted chocolate. Spread between and sides of cake ,frosting top last.
CHOCOLATE CAKE MADE WITH SALAD DRESSING

This recipe has been in my family forever. I grew up on it and has always been my favorite. It came from the time when eggs were not readily available. People are put off by the idea of "salad dressing" or Miracle Whip in a cake, but it is so moist and delicious! I tend to make this in two 9" round pans.

- Stir sugar and cocoa together.
- Add salad dressing and mix well.
- Dissolve soda in warm water.
- Alternate water (with soda) with flour into cream mixture.
- Mix well.
- Add vanilla.
- Bake 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

- Icing.
- Boil 4 T flour and 1 C milk to thin paste. Cool to lukewarm.
- Cream together:.
- 1 C shortening
- 1 C sugar
- dash salt.
- Add cooled paste to creamed mixture. Beat. Add vanilla. Beat until fluffy.

- 1. When all the ingredients are mixed together, stir well. Do not over beat.
- 2. Pour into a buttered and floured cake pan. You can use 2 small round pans or an 8 x 10. If you use a dark glass pan, watch the heat.
- 3. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until done. Don't be tempted to overcook this cake, and don't poke it unless you think it is about done or it will fall. Let cool completely before frosting. I put it in the freezer for several hours before frosting. If you use the fudge frosting, make sure the cake is back to about room temperature before you pour the frosting on.
- 4. We like it best served chilled.

- Make, bake and cool cake as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan.
- Poke cake every 1/2 inch with handle of wooden spoon. In medium bowl, beat pudding mix and milk with whisk about 2 minutes. Pour pudding evenly over cake. Run knife around sides of pan to loosen cake. Refrigerate about 2 hours or until chilled. Store loosely covered in refrigerator.

- First mix dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Then add water, Miracle Whip, and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into greased 9x13 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool before frosting.
- For Chocolate Butter Cream Frosting, put cocoa in a coffee cup, add just enough water to make a paste. Add chocolate paste to softened creamed butter in mixing bowl and mix until smooth. Add powdered sugar a little at a time until you get the consistency you like. Don't forget to scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula. Then add the vanilla. (If you just want the butter cream frosting, then leave out the cocoa and water mixture.)
- If you like cream cheese frosting, you can substitute cream cheese for half of the butter. For a lighter calorie frosting, use light cream cheese! It's delicious!
