SAVORY SWEET POTATO FRIES

Baked and easy to make, these are our favorite fries with hamburgers.

Savory Sweet Potato Fries image

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  • 2. Leave the skins on the potatoes and slice lengthwise into large wedges.
  • 3. In a large bowl add potatoes and olive oil. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder; Toss well.
  • 4. Place on baking sheet and bake uncovered 25-30 minutes until tender on the inside and crisp on the outside.

2 large sweet potatoes
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 dash(es) garlic powder
1 dash(es) onion powder

Sweet Potato Fries image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil; set aside.
  • Use peeler to peel sweet potatoes. Cut potatoes in half lengthwise then cut into 1/2-inch thick fries.
  • Place sweet potato fries in a large mixing bowl. Add oil and spices. Toss until they are thoroughly coated with spices.
  • Spread fries in a single layer on prepared baking sheet. Place in preheated oven. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes turning once to ensure even cooking. Remove from oven and serve hot.

2 pounds sweet potatoes
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 tablespoon low-sodium chili seasoning
Salt and pepper

These addictive seasoned "fries" from Mark Bittman are actually baked, but we promise you won't miss the grease. The spice mix - garlic powder, paprika, salt and black pepper - can be used on regular potatoes as well (you'll just need to increase the baking time a bit).

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 400.
  • Cut the sweet potatoes into sticks 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long, and toss them with the oil.
  • Mix the spices, salt and pepper in a small bowl, and toss them with the sweet potatoes. Spread them out on 2 rimmed baking sheets.
  • Bake until brown and crisp on the bottom, about 15 minutes, then flip and cook until the other side is crisp, about 10 minutes. Serve hot.

Sweet potato fries are a favorite in our house and are so satisfying they could almost be a meal on their own. This is a savory version of our favorite fries. We enjoy dipping ours in barbecue sauce!

Savory Sweet Potato Fries image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Wash the potatoes with cool water and pat dry. No need to peel them but you can pull of the little "stems".
  • Cut the potatoes into fry-size pieces. If you don't have a fancy gadget for this, I suggest enlisting your husband to do this because sweet potatoes are hard to cut!
  • Place all the fries in a gallon size Ziploc bag along with the oil. Seal the bag and toss to coat.
  • Open the bag and add in the seasonings. Toss again until all the fries are evenly coated.
  • Spread the fries out on two baking sheets. This gives them enough room to get crispy. If they're too crowded, they just get steamed and soggy.
  • Bake the fries in the oven for 15 minutes and then turn the fries using a pair of tongs or a spatula. Bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Fries should be slightly crisp. Some black on the edges is okay, since it's pretty tasty, just not too much!
