- In a shallow dish, combine the first 9 ingredients; add beef and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight, turning occasionally. , Drain and discard marinade. Thread beef onto six metal or soaked wooden skewers. Lightly oil the grill rack., Grill steak, covered, over medium-hot heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 8-10 minutes or until beef reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°; medium-well, 145°), turning occasionally.

- Cut steaks into thin strips. In a bowl combine the soy sauce, Chinese five spice, garlic, honey and seasoning. Add the beef, cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
- Remove 18 large outer leaves from the cabbage. In a pan of boiling water, blanch these leaves for 1-2 minutes, then drain and plunge into a bowl of cold water.
- Thread a strip of beef onto a long metal or wooden skewer. Fold a blanched cabbage leaf into three and tuck a water chestnut in the cavity. Push the skewer through the cabbage and water chestnut parcel. Alternate with more beef and cabbage parcels. Repeat to make 6 skewers.
- Cook over a prepared barbecue or under a preheated broiler for 10 minutes, turning once and basting with any remaining marinade.
- Scatter with sesame seeds and serve with rice noodles.

- In a bowl mix shrimp, garlic, onion, chestnuts and mushrooms.
- In a skillet in hot oil add shrimp mixture.
- Cook stirring constantly, until shrimp are pink and tender (about 3 minutes).
- In a bowl mix cornstarch and sherry.
- Stir until all is dissolved.
- Stir in sugar, salt, soy sauce and chicken broth.
- Pour mixture over shrimp.
- Cook, stirring constantly until slightly thickened.
- Serve over rice.

- In a small bowl whisk together the 3/4 cup beef broth, cornstarch, soy sauce, ginger, sugar, pepper and optional salt; SET ASIDE.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat oil until hot. Add the flank steak and crushed garlic cloves; saute until almost cooked, about 2 to 3 minutes; remove and set aside.

- Wash cabbage, core and cut in fine stripes.
- Dice onions and fry in hot oil until see through.
- Add ground beef and fry until cooked through.
- Season to taste.
- Add cabbage, bay leaf, carrots and some more seasoning.

- Season again if necessary.

Found online and posted for ZWT 7, South Pacific. The author claims this is of Japanese origin but has become a very popular Polynesian dish. Prep time includes marinating time. This says it makes 24 skewers, but I have difficulty believing that one pound of meat can go that far! Therefore, the number of servings here is a guess.
