Steps:

1. COMBINE DICED TOMATOES, TOMATO PASTE, GARLIC AND PEPPER IN CROCK POT
2. STIR IN CABBAGE, SAUSAGE, ONION AND RICE
3. COOK ON LOW 5-6 HOURS ~OR~ HIGH 2-3 HOURS

Ingredients

1 can(s) seasoned diced tomatoes
2 Tbsp tomato paste
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
1 small head of cabbage - shred
1 1/2 lb ground pork sausage - browned and drain
1 medium onion - chopped
1/2 c instant brown rice - uncooked
1 c chopped parsley

SLOW-COOKER CABBAGE, POTATOES AND BACON

You don't have to be Irish to enjoy cabbage with potatoes, and while this is a great dish for St. Patrick's Day, you can also enjoy it year-round. One of the best ways to appreciate cabbage and potatoes is straight from the slow cooker, after they've had a long simmer with bacon and Irish beer, of course. During the cooking process, the smoky, salty and umami bacon flavors melt into the cabbage and potatoes, and everything comes out perfectly cooked.

Slow-Cooker Cabbage, Potatoes and Bacon image

Steps:

Spray a large slow-cooker crock with nonstick cooking spray. Place the cabbage in the bottom, then add the onion and toss gently. Add the potatoes, caraway seeds, 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Sprinkle the potatoes with bacon and pour the beer over the potatoes and bacon.
Cook until the potatoes are tender, 3 hours on the high setting or 6 to 7 hours on the low setting. Stir gently before serving.

Steps:

Spary crock pot with nonstick cooking spray.
Crumble the raw ground turkey (or beef) and spread along bottom of crock pot.
Add the onions, green pepper, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme and cabbage.
Pour the diced tomatoes over top.
Mix the sugar into the tomato sauce and pour over everything. If you like more sauce, add another 8-oz or 15-oz can of tomato sauce.
Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours or on high for about 4 hours.
When done, remove lid and stir to mix well.

Cut the cabbage in half through the stem (core). Cut the core out by cutting a triangle shape out of both sides.
Lay the cabbage halves on its flat size. Cut the cabbage into 1-inch square pieces. Add to the slow cooker.
Cut the bacon before cooking into 1/2 inch pieces. Cook until browned in a skillet on the stove top, save the grease by pouring into a glass dish.
Add the bacon, bacon grease (I use 1/4 cup, use as little or as much as you prefer), apple cider vinegar, water, salt, and pepper. Stir. Add red pepper flake if you want it spicy.
