Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken image

Steps:

  • Place the chicken thighs in an even layer in the slow cooker.
  • Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, crushed red pepper, garlic, ginger, vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil and a few good grinds of black pepper in a large glass measuring cup or a medium bowl until combined. Pour the mixture over the chicken. Cover and cook on low until the chicken is cooked through and fork-tender, 6 to 8 hours. (Alternatively, cook the chicken on high for 4 hours.)
  • Turn the slow cooker up to high. Whisk together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons cold water in a small bowl to make a slurry, then mix the slurry into the sauce until combined. Submerging the sauce in the sauce as much as possible. Cover and cook on high until the sauce is thickened to the consistency of a glaze, about 30 minutes.
  • Transfer the chicken and sauce to a platter. Sprinkle with the scallions and toasted sesame seeds and serve with white rice.

Slow Cooker Soy-Ginger Chicken image

Steps:

  • In a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker, stir together soy sauce, sugar, garlic, cilantro, ginger, 1/2 cup scallions, vinegar, coriander, and pepper. Add chicken and carrots; toss to coat. Cover, and cook on low until chicken is tender, about 6 hours. Using a large spoon, skim off and discard any fat from surface of cooking liquid.
  • In a 2-cup glass measuring cup, whisk cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water. Ladle 1 cup cooking liquid into measuring cup; whisk to combine. Pour into a small saucepan, and bring to a boil; cook until thickened, about 1 minute. With slow cooker turned off, stir in cornstarch mixture. Serve chicken with white rice, and garnish with cilantro sprigs and remaining 1/2 cup scallions.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Follow step 1 (above), using a 5-quart Dutch oven or heavy pot with a tight-fitting lid instead of the slow cooker. Add 1 cup water, and cover. Transfer to oven; cook until chicken is tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Proceed to step 2 (above).

Steps:

  • 1. Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Place chicken (frozen, thawed or fresh) inside slow cooker.
  • 2. Mix together brown sugar, vinegar, soda, garlic, soy sauce, and pepper together. Pour over chicken
  • 3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4 hours.
  • 4. Take chicken pieces out of slow cooker (mine basically fell apart) and pour remaining sauce into saucepan.
  • 5. Place saucepan over high heat. Mix together corn starch and water, pour into saucepan, and mix well.
  • 6. Let sauce come to a boil and boil for 2-3 minutes, or until it starts to thicken and turns into a glaze.
  • 7. Remove from heat and let sit for a minute or two (it will continue to thicken as it cools down).
  • 8. Sprinkle red pepper flakes on top if desired. This can be served over rice, noodles or baked potato!
